Synopsis

A fascinating journey through time winds its way through the museum’s galleries and the streets of Turin’s historic center. Following in the footsteps of Augusta Taurinorum, the class will trace the city’s history from its origins, discovering monuments, historical artifacts, and precious remnants of the Roman era that are still visible today in the urban landscape.

The tour begins at the Royal Museums in the Archaeology section in Turin, overlooking the Roman Theater, where students will explore the origins and development of the Roman city during a one-hour tour.

The tour continues outdoors with a view of the Palatine Gates and the remains of the Roman walls. The walk proceeds along the modern city layout, following the ancient road system of the cardo and decumanus, until it reaches the current Via Garibaldi and the site of the ancient forum, now known as Piazza Palazzo di Città.

The tour concludes at Palazzo Madama, where visitors can still see the foundations of the ancient Porta Decumana—the last remaining trace of a route that allows one to trace the city’s Roman history directly within its urban fabric.
