Synopsis
Amid hundreds of cuneiform tablets—a veritable archive of public and private documents—and reliefs from the great palaces of Nineveh and present-day Khorsabad (Iraq), the exhibition takes visitors on a journey of discovery through ancient Mesopotamia and the civilizations of the Sumerians, Assyrians, and
Babylonians, under the watchful eye of the Assyrian king Sargon II. In the workshop, just like in an ancient Edubba—the Sumerian “house of tablets”—participants will mold clay and use a reed stylus to try their hand at cuneiform writing, learning to inscribe their own names and taking their first steps in the craft of the ancient scribes.
